Procurement specification

Treat the outer box, insert and products as separate specifications

The outer box provides the enclosure and presentation; the insert positions the products and supports the agreed removal method. For a multi-product set, record every different product before discussing a shared structure.

Product dimensions first

Measure the complete filled product with its cap, pump and protrusions. Record the maximum footprint, height, filled weight, display orientation and surfaces that should not contact the insert.

Box and insert fit together

Distinguish product size, insert opening and usable box space. Clearances, retention and lifting space are discussed using the actual products or drawings; do not turn a concept sketch into a production dimension.

Set count is not purchase quantity

One set can contain several products and several packaging parts. List the quantity required for each outer box, insert and divider, including any extra components, rather than multiplying automatically from the illustrated set.

Use the two concepts below to compare a single bottle with a mixed skincare set. For appearance and converting choices, review the material guide before confirming a sample.

Build a component brief from your use case

These are packaging concepts, not customer cases. Illustrated item counts are not entered as purchasing quantities.

One perfume or serum bottle

Present one bottle with an outer box and a separately specified insert. Discuss how the buyer lifts the bottle out without gripping a fragile cap.

Dimensions, quantities and use conditions

  • Provide bottle-body dimensions, cap height, pump or other protrusions, filled weight and preferred upright or horizontal position.
  • State which surfaces may touch the insert and where fingers should reach. Product dimensions are not the final box dimensions.
  • Quote the outer box and insert quantities separately; explain whether they arrive together or are purchased independently.

One bottle + two tubes

Show three differently shaped products together while recording each product separately. A presentation layout and a transport arrangement may need different support.

Dimensions, quantities and use conditions

  • Record bottle dimensions and each tube’s maximum width, thickness, cap and sealed-end shape separately.
  • Describe the displayed order, removal sequence and whether all products travel in this box or in another shipping carton.
  • Each finished set contains three products; this does not determine how many outer boxes, inserts or separate dividers you purchase.

Procurement answer

How should a buyer specify cosmetic packaging?

Cosmetic packaging can combine a folding carton or presentation box with an insert that positions the bottle, jar or set. Select the outer structure and insert together: retail appearance, loaded fit and shipping protection are separate requirements.

If bottles are heavy or fragile, evaluate support points, cap clearance and the outer transport pack using the actual product. If exposed edges or color are important, compare the proposed corrugated or paperboard insert with the chosen print surface. No single flute is always best.

Discuss size, structure, insert, printing, logo and finishing against the selected material and artwork. Approve a loaded sample before confirming the production reference.

Cosmetic Boxes: selection and sample review

Measure the complete primary container

For retail bottles, jars, tubes or sets, include caps, pumps and other protrusions in the dimensions. Identify the display front and the order in which items should be removed from the outer pack.

Coordinate fitment and printed presentation

Mark contact points that may hold the container and areas that must remain visible or free from pressure. Review carton or rigid-box construction, insert openings and proposed finishes with the same layout.

Approve the assembled retail pack

Check fit, label visibility, pump clearance and removal using the actual closed containers. This outer paper packaging does not establish the primary container's seal; sample type, artwork proof and delivery packing need separate agreement.

Cosmetic Boxes: what to include in your enquiry

Use these points to describe your requirements. For undecided details, write Not sure / Need recommendation and share the intended use or a reference photo to start the discussion. Specifications, materials and finishes are confirmed after project review.

Container dimensions and layout
Share bottle, jar or tube dimensions, item count and the intended retail arrangement.
Fitment and artwork
Identify contact points, areas that must remain visible and the artwork or finish reference.
Material and surface requirements
Send a preferred material or sample, if available. Board grade, coating and finish are confirmed after reviewing the intended use.
Printing and artwork
Share your logo or artwork, print areas, colours and finish reference. Feasibility is checked with the selected construction.
Quantity and delivery
Include the requested quantity, packing needs, destination and target date. MOQ, price, sample fees, sampling arrangements and actual lead time are confirmed in the quotation.

From brief to sample and quotation

  1. Share what you know

Start with the intended use, product dimensions or a reference photo, quantity and destination where known. For undecided material, structure or finish, write Not sure / Need recommendation and describe the result you need.

  2. Agree the sample and review points

A structural sample checks fit and handling; artwork or finish proofs check presentation. Agree the required sample type, material, review criteria, sample fees and timing before arranging that stage.

  3. Confirm the quotation scope

Confirm the selected specification, artwork status, quantity, delivery destination and packing form. MOQ, price and actual lead time remain subject to the quotation; flag any required contact-use documentation or testing for separate review.

Selection and quotation FAQs

Should the insert be reviewed with the cosmetic box?

Yes, send the container dimensions and arrangement together. The insert openings, presentation and outer-box fit depend on one another.

Should the pump or cap be included in the dimensions?

Yes. Supply the overall packed shape, including any cap, pump or applicator, and identify parts that cannot take pressure. A body-only measurement can miss the clearance needed for closure and handling.

Are the dimensions and MOQ fixed?

These pages describe packaging types for project review. Send the dimensions and quantity you need; final specifications and MOQ are confirmed in the quotation.
