What should a buyer know first?

Review a custom box in layers: confirm the document revision, measure the stated dimensions, assemble the structure, pack the real product, inspect print and finish against the agreed reference, and record the approved sample. A visual sign-off without product fit and revision control leaves critical decisions unresolved.

Control the approved revision

Label the dieline, artwork and specification with a clear revision. Check that the sample was made from the same material and structure described in the current document.

A comment such as looks good is not enough when several versions exist. Record the exact file and sample being approved.

Measure and assemble

Confirm whether stated dimensions are internal or external and measure the relevant points. Assemble the box using the intended sequence and check tabs, locks, glue areas and panel alignment.

Observe whether folds spring open, panels bow or edges collide. These findings should be resolved before approving appearance.

Pack the actual product

Place the real product, support board, insert and accessories inside. Check clearance, orientation, removal and closure.

Repeat the packing sequence enough to see whether it is clear and consistent for the person doing the work. A complex insert can fail operationally even when the empty sample looks correct.

Inspect print, finish and reference points

Review text, barcodes or required marks, color-critical areas, coating/lamination, embossing and window alignment where applicable. Use the agreed viewing conditions and physical reference.

Only the recorded material, structure and revision reviewed in this sequence should become the production reference.
