Cake Boards: selection and sample review

Fit the cake and outer box

For bakery display or boxed cakes, compare the cake footprint with the visible border you need. The board outline must also allow placement and removal inside the chosen box.

Review the surface and cut edge

Share the visible colour or covering reference and identify the food-contact face. Surface treatment, edge appearance and any printing need review against grease, moisture and intended use.

Check the intended lifting method

Test the sample with the intended cake weight and handling method, including transfer into the box. If more support is needed, compare a cake drum; no load capacity follows from the product photo.

Cake Boards: what to include in your enquiry

Use these points to describe your requirements. For undecided details, write Not sure / Need recommendation and share the intended use or a reference photo to start the discussion. Specifications, materials and finishes are confirmed after project review.

Cake footprint and load
Share cake shape, footprint, weight and the box dimensions the board must fit.
Edge and presentation
Describe the preferred edge treatment, visible surface and handling requirements.
Material and surface requirements
Send a preferred material or sample, if available. Board grade, coating and finish are confirmed after reviewing the intended use.
Printing and artwork
Share your logo or artwork, print areas, colours and finish reference. Feasibility is checked with the selected construction.
Quantity and delivery
Include the requested quantity, packing needs, destination and target date. MOQ, price, sample fees, sampling arrangements and actual lead time are confirmed in the quotation.

From brief to sample and quotation

  1. Share what you know

Start with the intended use, product dimensions or a reference photo, quantity and destination where known. For undecided material, structure or finish, write Not sure / Need recommendation and describe the result you need.

  2. Agree the sample and review points

A structural sample checks fit and handling; artwork or finish proofs check presentation. Agree the required sample type, material, review criteria, sample fees and timing before arranging that stage.

  3. Confirm the quotation scope

Confirm the selected specification, artwork status, quantity, delivery destination and packing form. MOQ, price and actual lead time remain subject to the quotation; flag any required contact-use documentation or testing for separate review.

Selection and quotation FAQs

How do I compare a cake board with a cake drum?

Compare the required support and presentation with the cake weight and box fit. If a thicker support is needed, review the related Cake Drums page; thickness is confirmed for the project.

How much border should remain around the cake?

Show the desired presentation and where staff need to hold the board. Review that border with the cake footprint and box interior instead of assuming a standard allowance.

Are the dimensions and MOQ fixed?

These pages describe packaging types for project review. Send the dimensions and quantity you need; final specifications and MOQ are confirmed in the quotation.

How is food-contact suitability confirmed?

Describe the food, contact conditions and destination market. Material choice and supporting documentation are reviewed for that use before an order is confirmed.
