Start with product measurements and intended use to discuss a structure-specific dieline.
A useful dieline starts with the packed product, not just a box name. Share a sketch, photo or existing pack and we can discuss the dimensions and structure needed for your project.
Label internal and external dimensions
Give length, width and height with a unit such as mm, cm or inches. Mark whether each measurement describes the product, the usable internal cavity or the outside of the assembled pack. For a round item, distinguish the product diameter from the required internal diameter.
Include accessories, wrapping and protruding parts. Board thickness, inward folds and inserts take up space, so product dimensions should not simply become box dimensions.
Confirm clearance with the real contents
Explain how the product is loaded, held and removed. Allow room for the agreed insert, protective layers and handling, then check that space using a representative product or a clearly dimensioned reference.
There is no single clearance allowance for every product. Check the closed pack and any outer carton with the proposed material before approving fit.
Specify the box, insert and assembly sequence
Show the preferred opening, closure and display orientation. Include the insert or divider layout, any separate lid and whether delivery should be flat or assembled.
Assemble the proposed parts together and check locks, glue areas, lid closure and product removal. Changes to one component may require changes to the rest of the set.
Agree the drawing before final artwork
Kehong can discuss a project-specific dieline after the structure, dimensions and material direction are reviewed. An existing template or 3D reference is a starting point, not an approved production drawing.
Send an existing dieline as a PDF preview if available. Arrange editable source files by email, and keep the agreed units, scale and revision visible when artwork is handed over.
Common questions
- Do I need a complete technical drawing to start?
- No. A product photo, approximate measurements and intended use are enough to begin. Mark uncertain dimensions as “Not sure” and explain what you want the pack to do.
- Can I resize a template for another product?
- Use it as a reference only. Material thickness, folds, locks and inserts must be reviewed again; changing the outline alone does not verify fit or assembly.
